Разруха, охватившая замок Сен-Фиакр – это символ падения одной отдельно взятой семьи и исчезновения целого образа жизни, системы ценностей, к которой Мегрэ, постарев, остается накрепко привязан.3 работы Габена в роли этого персонажа (2 фильма Деланнуа и Мегрэ видит красное, Maigret voit rouge, Гранжье, 1963 – фильм не без достоинств) делают его чуть ли не самым убедительным Мегрэ в истории кино. В Мегрэ и деле Сен-Фиакр комиссар в воплощении Габена, конечно, выразителен, человечен и авторитетен. Однако он чуть слишком самоуверенно возводит себя в ранг судьи, что противоречит характеру персонажа. Хотя верно и то, что его окружает горстка бесхарактерных людей, вызывающих скорее презрение, чем жалость. С другой стороны, диалоги слишком театральны, Мегрэ резко обрывает своих собеседников: ему не хватает тяги к тишине, мимикрии, полубессознательному впитыванию в себя обстановки – тех качеств, что всегда испытывает герой Сименона, в какое бы окружение ни попал в интересах следствия.
